Brilliant Bale helps Real Madrid win Champions League group 0

Posted on November 28, 2013 by admin

There may have been some concern among Real Madrid fans yesterday, with Cristiano Ronaldo ruled out of the Champions League game through injury. The opponents, Turkish champions Galatasaray, had improved a lot since Madrid beat then heavily in Istanbul, with Roberto Mancini working his magic, so people expected a tough test.

Those fears were much worse when Sergio Ramos was sent off for denying what the referee deemed to be a scoring opportunity. Although it was a bit soft, Ramos does it too often and must control himself, especially in Europe.

Real Madrid face Sociedad with 3 key defenders out!! 0

With Real Madrid already lying six points behind fierce La Liga rivals Barcelona and five behind city rivals Atletico, it goes without saying that Carlo Ancelotti and his players are walking a fine line. Another early slip up would give the club a huge task to catch up and would put a negative spin on things heading in to the two week international break.

So the news that three key defenders are unavailable this weekend is about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit. At least tomorrow’s La Liga clash against 7th placed Real Sociedad is at home and the Santiago Bernabeu has been a fortress for a long time, with the only points dropped there this season being the narrow loss to Atletico.

Ancelotti must reconcile Arbeloa and Casillas at Real Madrid 0

Iker Casillas and Alvaro Arbeloa both began their careers from the Real Madrid youth system but, whereas Casillas became the first team keeper at 18-years old and went on to play for his boyhood club over 650 times so far, Arbeloa had to move on to further his career.

The right back went into the B team, where he impressed, but he only managed two first team appearances in La Liga, so decided to accept a transfer to Deportivo La Coruna, which earned him a move to the English Premier League with Rafa Benitez and Liverpool. Then he was brought back to Real Madrid in 2009 and has been a fixture in the side since then.

Real Madrid sign Carvajal – Is Arbeloa finished? 0

I have long thought that Alvaro Arbeloa was a bit of a weak link for Real Madrid, and for the Spain national side as well. He was truly awful in the recent Confederations Cup final against Brazil. Maybe it is the ease with which the new Barcelona striker Neymar turned him inside out shows exactly why Real Madrid have chosen to use the buy-back option written into his contract when he was sold to Bayer Leverkusen just a year ago.

Arbeloa to clear air with Real Madrid and Spain captain Casillas 0

It seems clear that Iker Casillas and Alvaro Arbeloa were not really talking at Real Madrid towards the end of the season, because Arbeloa has stated that he intends to try to clear the air with the keeper while they are on international duty with Spain at the Confederations Cup.

Arbeloa insists that his previous statement supporting Jose Mourinho and blaming some of the players for the problems at Real Madrid this season, was not meant as a slight or a specific dig at his his captain, although the media certainly saw it that way.

Arbeloa blames Real Madrid players not Mourinho for failure 0

The dream team and the dream is over. Real Madrid, the biggest and richest team in the world, and the manager thought to be the best in the world, Jose Mourinho, have gone their separate ways. It is safe to say that the dream partnership did not work. It was supposed to end the dominance of FC Barcelona and bring the historic 10th European cup to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, but neither of those two main objectives has been achieved.

Real Madrid rely on Ronaldo again in Champions League 0

Posted on April 10, 2013 by admin

The players and coaching staff of Real Madrid knew that an awat trip to face Galatasaray in Istanbul was going to be a challenging experience, but a 3-0 victory in the first leg at the Bernabeu last week meant that progression to the semi-finals of the Champions League was almost a formality.

If it was not for Cristiano Ronaldo, though, Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho could have been having a very bad day today. The Portuguese striker scored a good early goal and it is just as well he did, because once the Turkish side got going and got the crowd behind them, Madrid wobbled. Then we kept wobbling, as Galatasaray scored once, twice and a third time, all withing 15 second half minutes.

No Ronaldo or Ramos for Real Madrid at Osasuna 0

Real Madrid have had plenty of problems with injuries this season, especially in defence, but it is disciplinary issues which are causing Jose Mourinho problems this weekend. Two of the most important players for the Spanish champions are unavailable for the trip to Pamplona to play Osasuna.

Christiano Ronaldo has been the most influential player by far for Los Blancos this season, but he received his fifth yellow card of the season against Real Sociedad last weekend so is suspended for today’s match. At least Mourinho has his two other strikers, Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema, available after the Argentinean has recovered from his hamstring problem.

Real Madrid play Real Sociedad with one proper defender! 0

There will be just one of the regular first choice defenders on the pitch when Real Madrid attempt to get the Primera Liga campaign back on track against Real Sociedad today. Alvaro Arbeloa is the only one who is not injured or suspended for this vital game, and he will probably play out of his normal position.

Because both left backs, Marcelo and Coentrao are not fit to play, Arbeloa will play in that position. Essien may be called upon to fill in at right back, as he has done for Mourinho before. Pepe and Albiol are also injured, while Ramos is suspended, so the youngster Varane and the veteran Carvalho will be the central defenders.

Benzema to miss Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with Dortmund 0

Posted on November 06, 2012 by admin

Real Madrid have some injury worries for the crucial Champions League game against group leaders Borussia Dortmund. With the left backs Marcelo and Coentrao out, Mourinho will be glad to have his right back, Arbeloa, available but will play him at left back tonight. Sergio Ramos will play at right back, as he used to do for Sevilla, and 19-year old Varane will partner Pepe in the centre.

Dortmund have good attacking power, with Reus, Gotze and Lewandowski, so Mourinho will be keen to keep them on the defensive, but he will have to do it without the French international Karim Benzema. The striker has a hamstring problem, so the central striker role will fall to Gonzalo Higuain.
