The clear favourite to replace Jose Mourinho as the manager of Real Madrid is the Italian Carlo Ancelotti. According to the media, the deal is pretty much done and it is just a matter of details. There is a small problem, however, in the shape of his current team Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club have won the Ligue 1 title for the first time since 1994. That means that Ancelotti’s contract is automatically extended into next season. When Ronaldo scored against Malaga on Wednesday night, it was his 200th goal for Real Madrid, a feat he achieved in just 197 games. Not surprisingly this makes him the quickest player to reach the total in the history of the club. It also reinforces why the Madrid fans are desperate for him to stay. That now seems more likely than ever for a number of reasons.

After his goal on Wednesday, Ronaldo pointed to the Bernabeu turf and shouted, “Yo aqui, Yo aqui,” This means I am here in Spanish and seems ti indicate his intention to stay in Madrid, rather than move as the media has been suggesting.  ......Read more...

Real Madrid were once again reminded of the importance of Cristiano Ronaldo to the team yesterday. The 28-year old Portuguese international gave the fans at the Bernabeu something to smile about after the third Champions League semi-final exit in as many seasons.

Ronaldo put on yet another master class which he topped with two great headed goals, taking him onto 199 goals for Real Madrid from just 196 games. His goal helped Madrid to beat a very good Valladolid team by 4-3, a result which means that Barcelona can not seal the Spanish Primera Liga title with a win against Real Betis today.  ......Read more...

Real Madrid have played Borussia Dortmund three times already this season and have yet to win a game. That will count for nothing tonight, however, as long as the Madrid players run out onto the pitch at the Bernabeu ready to give everything for the improbable comeback.

It would not be the first time that a Real Madrid side pulled off a miracle like this. Previous statistics do offer some hope to Jose Mourinho and his players, as Madrid have won 17 of their 23 home games against German teams. Three of those wins would have been enough to see us into the final. 4-0 against Munchengladbach in 1985, 5-1 against Cologne in 1986 and 3-0 against Bayer Leverkusen in 1998.  ......Read more...

Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid need all the help they can get ahead of tomorrow’s massive game at the Bernabeu tomorrow. Trailing Borussia Dortmund 4-1 from the first leg, the club has been sweating over the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star scored the only goal for Madrid in the first leg, but also picked up a thigh problem and had to miss the game against Real Betis on Saturday.

The good news for Madrid is that Ronaldo went through a normal training session with his team mates today and there was no sign of any problems. The Spanish champions have a mountain to climb against last year’s German champions, but the away goal gives hope.  ......Read more...

If Real Madrid looked stunned at the final whistle last night, Jose Mourinho seemed to be equally bewildered in his post match press conference. The Portuguese coach was at a loss to explain how his team were so soundly beaten by Borussia Dortmund, although he has definitely not given up on overturning the result at the Bernabeu next week.

There have been lots of rumours about the Colombian striker Radamel Falcao and which club he might transfer to in the summer. Real Madrid are understandably keen to sign the prolific hit man, but it appears that they would have to pay their local city rivals much more than any other club to do so.

AS has reported that Atletico Madrid have put a clause into Falcao’s contract that means he would cost their city rivals Real €75 million, whereas any other club would only pay €60 million. Whether this will put Real Madrid off or not is unclear, but it does make it less likely.  ......Read more...

The story has been doing the rounds for some time now, and it appears that officials at Real Madrid have had enough. The club director Emilio Butragueno has told any teams who are hoping to get the Portuguese superstar this summer, in no uncertain terms, that it is not going to happen.

Paris Saint-Germain are known to be eagerly awaiting news that the 28-year old is up for sale, and Manchester United are supposed to have held talks with their sponsors about financing the purchase of arguably the world’s best player. There have been a lot of fans and followers of Real Madrid scratching their heads this season, wondering why on Earth did Jose Mourinho chase the Croatian midfielder for so long, eventually paying Tottenham around €40 million for him last summer. His 40 minute masterclass against Manchester United on Tuesday has answered those questions, although Modric must start producing the goods more regularly for the fans to accept him.

As soon as United were reduced to 10 men, Mourinho brought on the 27-year old and it worked perfectly. The little maestro orchestrated the game for Madrid and exploited the extra space perfectly. Michael Laudrup is the man the Real Madrid fans seem to want to take over from Jose Mourinho. The favourite with the bookmakers is Carlo Ancelotti who is coaching Paris Saint-Germain at the minute, and who has a wealth of experience, with two European cups and both the Italian and English league and cup doubles.
