Will Real Madrid have to change system with Khedira out? 0

Posted on November 17, 2013 by admin

You would think a team club like Real Madrid, with a stellar squad assembled from the world’s best players, would be able to cope with the loss of a player. Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo, who is unique, Madrid should have plenty of options, but there is serious concern among Madrid fans and pundits in Spain that the loss of Sami Khedira could be a real problem.

The German midfielder, who damaged his cruciate ligament in the friendly against Italy on Friday, is thought to be the only player of his kind in the team. There are others who play in the same position, like Alonso, Modric and the new signings Casemiro and Illarramendi, but they are all different.

Real Madrid transfer news – Pogba, Ramires and Khedira 0

If there is any truth in the rumours linking Real Madrid with the Juventus player Paul Pogba and the Chelsea player Ramires, it suggests that Carlo Ancelotti has identified a weakness in his La Liga side. Both if the players mentioned play in a box-to-box midfield role, with the onus being on energy and work rate.

That is currently the position filled by Sami Khedira and Luka Modric, and while the former Tottenham man seems happy, is playing well and has become a fans favourite at the Santiago Bernabeu, the German international does not seem entirely settled. There have been stories in the press about Khedira and he was critical of the decision to sell Mesut Ozil to Arsenal.

Alonso return from injury will steady Real Madrid ship 0

You can tell just how important Xabi Alonso is to Real Madrid, at least in the eyes of the coach Carlo Ancelotti. Despite only playing around 10 minutes of competitive football since being sidelined with injury last season, at the end of Wednesday’s game against Sevilla, the midfielder will be thrown right in from the start of tomorrow’s game away to Rayo Vallecano.

Ancelotti said, “Xabi will start. I don’t know whether he will play the whole 90 minutes, but he will start.”

Real Madrid have transfer agreement with Dortmund star Gundogan 0

Real Madrid are poised to dash the hopes of some of the Premier League big boys, including Manchester United and Arsenal. Those two English clubs were thought to be the main contenders to complete the signing of the Germany international Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, but it looks like they are going to miss out.

According to The Express, the 22-year old is heading to the Bernabeu, as Real Madrid have prepared an offer of around £25 million. The report also claims that there is already an agreement in principle for the transfer. Gundogan has apparently turned down the offer of a new contract from his Bundesliga club to extend his stay past the current deal which runs out in 2015.

Galatasaray vs. Real Madrid Champions League Preview 0

Posted on September 17, 2013 by admin

The last time that Real Madrid played Galatasaray in Istanbul, which was in last season’s Champions League quarter-final, they lost 3-2, and that will give the Turkish champions a great confidence boost ahead of tonight’s game. They are a dangerous opponent, certainly especially with the vocal and hostile home crowd in full swing.

Carlo Ancelotti knows he cannot afford to lose this game, and he is still trying to get the new players integrated into the team, while coping with the absence through injury of key players Xabi Alonso, Marcelo and Varane. The defence is really important tonight, so the experience of Pepe and Sergio Ramos could be vital, as could the cover in front of the back four so I expect Sami Khedira to start.

Real Madrid did not have to play almost the whole game with 10 men this time, but the sending off of Sergio Ramos in the Copa Del Rey last night nearly gave Jose Mourinho and the team an almighty headache. The Spanish champions are practically certain to lose their Primera Liga title this season, so they will be taking this competition seriously along with the top European Competition, in which Madrid are currently second in the Champions League Odds.

But Mourinho’s men nearly made hard work of it, and they were only 2-0 up when Ramos received a second yellow card with around 20 minutes to go last night giving Vigo the chance of a comeback.

Real Madrid have The Special One and he is Portuguese. His name is not Jose Mourinho, however, it is Christiano Ronaldo. CR7 was in majestic form last night, and he needed to be because Madrid were down to 10 men after 6 minutes. Jose Mourinho surprised everybody by leaving Iker Casillas on the bench. The captain had recently been voted the best keeper in the world for the umpteenth time in a row, but Mourinho claimed the move was for tactical reasons.

Real Madrid must not lose to Man City and hope Dortmund fail 0

If Real Madrid can avoid defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad stadium tonight, the English champions will have crashed out at the group stages for the second year running and Jose Mourinho will be on the verge of progressing to the next round. That is the easy bit, the complicated part comes in the other game and the possible permutations in the Group of Death.

Mourinho must do without Alonso for Real Madrid vs. Real Zaragoza 0

The 30-year old midfield general, Xabi Alonso, played his 100th competitive game for Real Madrid in September and he has become one of the most reliable players at the club, if not the world. He also played his 100th game for the Spanish national side during Euro 2012. He marked that event with both goals as Spain beat France in the quarter finals, on their way to lifting the trophy again.

Jose Mourinho will have to shuffle his playing pack tomorrow, however, as Alonso is suspended for the game due to collecting his fifth yellow card in this La Liga season. Alonso has always been combative but does not normally get booked quite so often.

Ronaldo goal fails to stop Real Madrid losing in Champions League 0

Borussia Dortmund extended the terrible form of Real Madrid in Germany by inflicting another defeat and leaving them with just a single win in 24 games on German soil. Ronaldo extended his great scoring form to seven games in a row but this time it did not herald a Real Madrid victory.

As well as the defeat, Jose Mourinho has another injury problem to deal with. Sami Khedira, who had just returned to the side from a hamstring problem, did not last 20 minutes against Dortmund after suffering an injury to his thigh. There is no news about the extent of the problem yet, but he is sure to miss at least one game.
