That is the easy bit, the complicated part comes in the other game and the possible permutations in the Group of Death.

The 30-year old midfield general, Xabi Alonso, played his 100th competitive game for Real Madrid in September and he has become one of the most reliable players at the club, if not the world. He also played his 100th game for the Spanish national side during Euro 2012. He marked that event with both goals as Spain beat France in the quarter finals, on their way to lifting the trophy again.

Jose Mourinho will have to shuffle his playing pack tomorrow, however, as Alonso is suspended for the game due to collecting his fifth yellow card in this La Liga season. Alonso has always been combative but does not normally get booked quite so often.

Borussia Dortmund extended the terrible form of Real Madrid in Germany by inflicting another defeat and leaving them with just a single win in 24 games on German soil. Ronaldo extended his great scoring form to seven games in a row but this time it did not herald a Real Madrid victory.

As well as the defeat, Jose Mourinho has another injury problem to deal with. Sami Khedira, who had just returned to the side from a hamstring problem, did not last 20 minutes against Dortmund after suffering an injury to his thigh. There is no news about the extent of the problem yet, but he is sure to miss at least one game.

Jose Mourinho is the boss, that is certain. He has been given more control over affairs at Real Madrid than any of his recent predecessors and he is bigger than any player. Of course it will not be spoken about publicly, but he will not hesitate to drop players who do not keep in line and has done it before. The Special One is aware, however, that his main job is to win football matches and trophies.

The defender will not be going easy old club and will give his all to get the title race back on track, hoping also that Getafe can take some points off Barcelona.
