Real Madrid were once again reminded of the importance of Cristiano Ronaldo to the team yesterday. The 28-year old Portuguese international gave the fans at the Bernabeu something to smile about after the third Champions League semi-final exit in as many seasons.

Ronaldo put on yet another master class which he topped with two great headed goals, taking him onto 199 goals for Real Madrid from just 196 games. His goal helped Madrid to beat a very good Valladolid team by 4-3, a result which means that Barcelona can not seal the Spanish Primera Liga title with a win against Real Betis today.

There have been lots of rumours about the Colombian striker Radamel Falcao and which club he might transfer to in the summer. Real Madrid are understandably keen to sign the prolific hit man, but it appears that they would have to pay their local city rivals much more than any other club to do so.

AS has reported that Atletico Madrid have put a clause into Falcao’s contract that means he would cost their city rivals Real €75 million, whereas any other club would only pay €60 million. Whether this will put Real Madrid off or not is unclear, but it does make it less likely.

The story has been doing the rounds for some time now, and it appears that officials at Real Madrid have had enough. The club director Emilio Butragueno has told any teams who are hoping to get the Portuguese superstar this summer, in no uncertain terms, that it is not going to happen.

Paris Saint-Germain are known to be eagerly awaiting news that the 28-year old is up for sale, and Manchester United are supposed to have held talks with their sponsors about financing the purchase of arguably the world’s best player. However, there is a small problem in that he is contracted to Madrid until summer 2015 and the club are only interested in extending that period, not shortening it.

Mourinho could still be a Real Madrid hero 0

It was not too long ago that Jose Mourinho took his place on the sideline early, specifically to give the Real Madrid fans the chance to whistle and jeer him, so the players did bot have to face the bad atmosphere. His reputation among supporters of the Spanish champions was at it’s lowest ebb, with some calling for him to be sacked straight away rather than wait until the end of the season.

Mourinho has Premier league incentive to guide Real Madrid to beat Man United! 0

The match tonight between two giants of world football, Real Madrid and Manchester United, has been billed as the game the world is waiting for, among other things. For the players, coaches and everyone involved with the clubs, there is massive importance on this first leg at the Bernabeu.

For Jose Mourinho, however, it holds an extra incentive. The Portuguese manager has spoken before about how he enjoyed his time in charge of Chelsea and how he would like to return one day. He has spoken about it again in the build up to this Champions league double header, and has hinted that he would consider moving back to the Premier league in England sooner rather than later.

Jose Mourinho has been asked outright by members of the Spanish media whether he will continue to be the manager of Real Madrid after the end of this season, but the Portuguese manager deftly deflected the questions, suggesting that they should ask the man who is responsible for making the decisions, Real’s president Florentino Perez.

There is a growing feeling in football circles, however, that this season will be the last for Mourinho at the Bernabeu. The Special one has lost the backing of some of the Madrid fans, despite winning back the Primera Liga title from Barcelona last season. The Catalan side have stormed into an 11 point lead over Madrid, and last season’s record breaking exploits seem a long way away.

Real Madrid fans show their displeasure to Mourinho 0

Jose Mourinho chose not to face reporters at the press conference following last night’s match. Real Madrid had beaten Alcoyano 4-1 in the first leg of this Copa Del Rey encounter, and Mourinho gave some players a chance. Only Modric and Ozil from the regular first team started the game, and there was an odd atmosphere all night. It took until the 72nd minute for the substitue Di Maria to open the scoring, after which Callejon added two more, but it was not the game that caused supporters to boo Mourinho but the season so far.
