There is still almost ho hope that Real Madrid can defend the Spanish Primera Liga title, but at least the players made sure that Barcelona would have to earn it. Anything less than a victory against Malaga at the Bernabeu last night would have meant the Catalan club sealing the league without playing.
It could have been a difficult night for Madrid, with feeling running high, especially against Jose Mourinho. The rumours of discordance in the dressing room and the fact that Malaga were desperate for points in their bid for Champions League football next season made it a potentially awkward encounter, but everything turned out great. Real Madrid face the biggest game of the season so far tomorrow, and it seems as if Jose Mourinho will have fewer players to choose from than he would like. Luka Modric, who was the star of the show as Madrid came from behind to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, is a real doubt. To add to the problems, the Brazilian left back Marcelo looks like missing both legs. ......Read more...

Real Madrid had the chance to make up some ground on Barcelona in La Liga, after the Catalan club rested a number of first team players ahead of their Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday. They could only manage a draw at relegation strugglers Celta Vigo, so a win for Madrid away to Real Zaragoza would close the gap to 11 points with nine games to play.
Real Zaragoza were also fighting against the drop, starting the game just two points above 18th place. They got a dream start, with Rodri shooting past Diego Lopez to stun the Madrid players. Mourinho had also made a few changes, starting with Essien, Modric, Callejon and Kaka instead of Xabi Alonso, Khedira, Ozil and Di Maria. ......Read more...

The last time Real Madrid wanted a player from the English Premier League club Tottenham, they were made to work hard and spend a lot of money, but eventually got their man. That was Luka Modric and he finally proved just why he was so coveted by Madrid with a game changing performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The latest Tottenham player to become the target for Real Madrid is the Welshman Gareth Bale. The 23-year old is having his best season ever, adding goals to his previous talents on the wing, just as Cristiano Ronaldo did before. Tottenham are desperate to hold on to Bale, and will offer him a huge pay rise, but Madrid are planning to blow that out of the water, according to the Daily Mirror. ......Read more...

There have been a lot of fans and followers of Real Madrid scratching their heads this season, wondering why on Earth did Jose Mourinho chase the Croatian midfielder for so long, eventually paying Tottenham around €40 million for him last summer. His 40 minute masterclass against Manchester United on Tuesday has answered those questions, although Modric must start producing the goods more regularly for the fans to accept him.
As soon as United were reduced to 10 men, Mourinho brought on the 27-year old and it worked perfectly. The little maestro orchestrated the game for Madrid and exploited the extra space perfectly. His equalising goal was simply stunning and he helped to create Ronaldo’s winner, so it was a fantastic night for him. ......Read more...

Real Madrid have not had the best of seasons so far, and Jose Mourinho knows that only a miracle will help to retain the title of Spanish champions. All the focus now is on the Champions league, though, and the visit of Manchester United to the Bernabeu tomorrow. Madrid have not lost a home game in any competition this season, and Alex Ferguson will be well aware that his best chance of overcoming Mourinho will be at Old Trafford. ......Read more...

Jose Mourinho will not care one bit that Real Madrid were not at their best last night against Valencia in the Copa Del Rey. Valencia will complain about a couple of tight offside decisions that went against them, but they still had plenty of chances to score a vital away goal and they did not take them.
Iker Casillas made a few crucial saves to keep an important clean sheet for his team, which should be enough to see us through to the semi-final of the Spanish cup. Madrid certainly rode their luck, and Benzema took his rare chance well to put Madrid ahead. Luka Modric had a golden opportuntity before then to take the lead, but he somehow put his shot wide of the post. ......Read more...

Jose Mourinho is planning a bid of around £35 million to bring Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. The Wales and Tottenham winger is wanted by the special one to save a season which is in danger of being disastrous. Madrid face a tough double header in the Spanish cup against Valencia starting tonight. If they go out of the Copa Del Rey, the only real chance of a trophy this season is the champions league, because Barcelona have a lead of 18 points in the Primera Liga. ......Read more...

Jose Mourinho knows that Real Madrid must win against Valencia in the Bernabeu tonight. It is only the first leg in the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey, but Valencia are a tough opponent at any time, and have already held the Spanish champions to a draw at home in the league this season. Valencia are in good form and are only seven points behind Madrid in the league table. ......Read more...

Real Madrid chased Luka Modric from Tottenham for a long time before finally getting their man this summer. He was not cheap, costing around £33 million, but was expected to be an instant success and help Madrid to retain the Spanish league title. Well it hasn’t worked out so far, but his team mate, Xabi Alonso, has backed him to come good as long as he is given a little more time to settle in at the club.
“I don’t think it’s pressure. He plays in a position where we have several players and he’s adapting to a new club and a new league. It took me a while to adapt on my return to La Liga. ......Read more...
