Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, has got his man again. After surprising the football world by getting Isco to change his mind and choose Madrid over Manuel Pellegrini and Manchester City, with a little help from Zinedine Zidane, Perez has broken down the stubborn resistance of Real Sociedad and the president Jokim Aperribay and sealed the deal for the defensive midfield star Asier Illarramendi.

The exact details of the agreement have not been revealed, but it is clear that Madrid will pay the full amount of the 23-year old Spanish international’s release clause. That amounts to 38 million euros including the Spanish version of VAT, and he will be given a five year contract at the Bernabeu.

There is no confirmation whether or not Real Madrid have made any official contact with the Italian champions Juventus about their Chilean midfield general Arturo Vidal, but there have been rumours and speculation in the Spanish and Italian media about him being one of the transfer targets for Carlo Ancelotti this summer.

The 26-year old Chilean international has obviously heard about the possibility, though, and has tentatively expressed his interest in playing at the Santiago Bernabeu. You get used to a certain way of players and managers speaking during transfer windows, where they are careful about upsetting their current clubs and they don’t want to put off any potential suitors.

Real Madrid have certainly not gone off the idea of signing the young defensive midfielder Asier Illarramendi, but Florentino Perez is also determined to make the club a lot tougher to deal with in the transfer market, so may decide that Sociedad are not worth dealing with.

Perez thought that an agreement was in place with the Northern Spanish club, but they have changed their tune and are insisting on squeezing every penny out of the deal. Perez has already shown his new ruthlessness in the transfer saga involving Gonzalo Higuain and Arsenal, so Sociedad may soon find that they can keep Illarramendi but lose out on the 30 million euro transfer fee.

Real Madrid were hoping to announce another landmark signing this week, with a verbal agreement apparently in place with Asier Illarramendi and his club Real Sociedad. Whether or not that verbal agreement was reached or not, it was not worth the paper it was not written on, and Real Madrid may have to meet the full release clause of the contract if they are going to add the 23-year old midfielder to the squad.

Real Madrid play Real Sociedad with one proper defender! 0

There will be just one of the regular first choice defenders on the pitch when Real Madrid attempt to get the Primera Liga campaign back on track against Real Sociedad today. Alvaro Arbeloa is the only one who is not injured or suspended for this vital game, and he will probably play out of his normal position.

Because both left backs, Marcelo and Coentrao are not fit to play, Arbeloa will play in that position. Essien may be called upon to fill in at right back, as he has done for Mourinho before. Pepe and Albiol are also injured, while Ramos is suspended, so the youngster Varane and the veteran Carvalho will be the central defenders.

After the avalanche of cards against Villareal, the team must be reorganised for tonights visit of Real Sociedad to the Bernabeu. A week ago this match was not seen as important, but after dropping four points and losing key players it is vital for Madrid to stop the rot and get all three points.

Pepe was banned for two matches for his post match comments in the tunnel. Faria, the trainer, also got a two match ban, while Mourinho and Ozil were banned for one game each. Somehow Sergio Ramos escaped a ban due to an error in the referee`s report. Lass also misses a match as he picked up his 5th yellow card.
