Just Real Madrid News

What Real Madrid fans can expect from Euro 2016?

Just one game to go for Real Madrid this season and it is certainly a big one and hopefully the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid on Saturday ends in the same result as we got two years ago. It would be nice for the nerves of anyone concerned with Los Blancos, however, if this Real Madrid side did not leave it as late as the last one.

But when the dust has settled on this huge European game, Real Madrid thoughts will turn to Euro 2016 and our preparations for next season and the summer tournament could have a significant effect on those preparations, for a number of reasons.

One is the uncertain future of the star man Cristiano Ronaldo, who had been widely reported to be coming to the end of his career at the Santiago Bernabeu. That may not be the case, though, as Sky Sports are reporting that the club is having second thoughts about selling him and his performances for Portugal in France could tip the balance one way or the other.

And talking of Ronaldo, the Real Madrid goal machine has got be worth a look at the Euro 2016 betting odds to be the tournament’s top scorer, especially as Portugal are not one of the favourites. One Real Madrid player who will not be there is our French international striker Karim Benzema, as Didier Deschamps is not selecting him because of the off pitch issues.

That will at least mean one less Real Madrid player that could pick up an injury, and of course we could do with all of our players coming back fully fit after the summer break. So if Ronaldo plays well I think we could well see the same front three starting for Zidane next season. The boss is sure to be looking at other players who shine at the Euros as possible transfer targets for Madrid, while other clubs will surely be looking at our players, especially those like Varane and Isco who have not been getting the game time they would like.

Both of these could be off in the summer but good performances for their countries could change that. It could also mean that Madrid can demand bigger transfer fees for them. I personally think that Varane should play more and could be one of the best centre backs in the world, but Metro seem to think he could be heading for Manchester United and so maybe Euro 2016 will provide a replacement for the young Frenchman.

As well as the Euros there is a Copa America being played this summer in the USA, with quite a few of our stars heading off to perform in that, so get ready for a very interesting summer for Real Madrid fans.
