Zidane backs Real Madrid to pip Barcelona to La Liga title

Things really have taken an upward turn for Real Madrid and the chances of major trophy success this season ever since the top brass at the Santiago Bernabeu decided to call it a day on the previous manager Rafa Benitez and replace the former Liverpool and Chelsea boss with the former Real Madrid and France star Zinedine Zidane.

From it looking like being a season to forget for Los Blancos, with no one in the Spanish media giving them a chance of doing anything to stop the stroll to the La Liga title of great rivals Barcelona, Zidane has managed to get his under performing team to within a whisker of being crowned champions of Spain ahead of the Catalan club as well as making it into another Champions League final, so it is no wonder the Frenchman is full of belief, as his comments in a Sky Sports report make clear.

Zidane said, “I am always positive. Now we are second, there is one game to go and anything can happen.

“In football you never know what can happen. We need to be aware of that, give our all until the end and see what happens.

“The first part is our part. It won’t be an easy game and we know that.

“The objective we had fixed was to get into second and now there is just one match left to try and go top.

“Granada are safe [from relegation] and will play the match as they have to. The important thing is that we do too.

“We have won 11 in a row and we want to show we’ll continue to search for these two trophies.”

As well as Real Madrid have done since the former World Player of the Year took over, there would still have been no chance of the La Liga title if Barcelona had not let them back in, but perhaps the pressure of expectation or even a touch of complacency crept into their game.

That saw them lose three league games in a row, starting with the El Clasico defeat at home to Real Madrid at the start of April. Now Zidane is hoping that the pressure tells on his rivals once more and his comments are intended to encourage this to happen while urging his own players on to make sure that Madrid are in place to take advantage if Barca falter.

It has already happened once this season in a big way so there is good reason to think it might do the same again and if you agree with Zidane then now would be a great time to stick a bet on Madrid to achieve what nobody thought they would just a couple of months ago. And just in case you do here is a link to Matchbook that gives you a free bet as well as some great odds. Good luck guys and good luck to Zidane and the Madrid lads.
